YA HUSAIN

Through the Eyes
of Zuljinah
“These four artworks emerge from my contemplation of the unwavering loyalty of Imam Husain’s horse - a silent witness to courage, sacrifice, and love beyond death.
I have imagined him moving through the battlefield in grief, devotion, and fierce emotional fervour: a warrior horse carrying not merely his master, but the weight of loss, faith, and eternal remembrance.
In the final journey, he returns with his martyred master to the tent of the beloved grieving family, a moment suspended between tragedy and transcendence.
This Muharram, I wish to share these limited-edition, museum-quality prints with you. Each work is an offering of remembrance, loyalty, and love.”

Zuljinah at Dusk
Ro ro ke kah rahi thhi yahi chashme Zuljinah
is imtehañ ke baad koi imtehañ nahiñ’
With tearful eyes Zuljinah lays his king to rest he weeps
‘there can be no bigger test’

Zuljinah in Battle
Teeroñ ke taaza waar se bahta hua lahu
ik raushni se hoti hai ghode ki guftagu
Blood gushes from arrows fresh with evil might
In that moment the gallant horse talks to a flash of light
Tapoñ ki sadaoñ se falak goonjta hua
ik noor apne wajd meiñ raqsañ chahaar su
the sound of his hooves echo in the skies above
as down below
in a divine trance...
is the glow of a sacred wounded dance...

Zuljinah Rides to Battle
The horse rides away from the pitched tents
with an invisible rider Husain he says,
‘maiñ Zuljinah huñ mujhe dar nahiñ andheroñ ka,
jo meri pusht pe hai roshni Khuda ki hai’
‘I am Zuljinah I am fearless of darkness,
for I carry on my back the light of the Almighty.’
